School Uniforms Needed Since the Cleveland Metropolitan School District announced a cutback on providing vouchers for assistance with buying school uniforms for needy students, leaders of the West Tech Neighbors Block Club have decided to ask those who might have gently worn uniforms to donate them so other students can use them. Call Cudell Improvement, Inc. at 216.228.4383 to leave a number where you can be contacted about a donation or send a check so new ones can be purchased at Cleveland Uniform (in the neighborhood). Free Theatre in the Parks Join the fun at Noon on Thursday, August 5th at Mercedes Cotner Park, West 95th and Maywood Avenue, when the Student Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP) presents a live performance of Song of the Seekers. The free performance combines the creativity and talent of inner city youth with singing, dancing, rhythm and rhyme. National Night Out Against Crime Next Tuesday We're giving crime and drugs a going away party next Tuesday, August 3 at 5:30 PM at Cudell Commons Park, 1910 West Boulevard. Come support your friends and neighbors in our fight to maintain safety and a high quality of life in our neighborhood. Games, activities, music, free food from around the globe, beverages and the Big Bouncing Slide. Funded by MyCom with support from Councilman Jay Westbrook, Cudell Improvement, Inc., Nueva Luz Urban Resource Center, Target and SAFE-16. Let's Move Health Fair Tomorrow Urban Kutz, 11106 Detroit Avenue, and the Cleveland Christian Foundation, with support from Neighborhood Connections and Cudell Improvement, Inc, are presenting a Health Fair and Block Party. This free event at West 111 and Detroit Avenue will include free health screenings and free dental care for kids by University Hospital's Pediatric Dental bus. Condolences Our heartful sympathy goes out to the family of Helene Accordino, longtime Cudell member and supporter, Helene was a beautiful lady with the greenest thumb in the neighborhood. Her gardens at the Painted Ladies on West 117th Street earned her awards from Cudell Improvement and many others. Also, our deepest sympathy to Bob Darby, manager of the VA Transitional Residency on Lorain Avenue, on the recent death of his mother, Dominga. Although we did not know her personally, she raised a fine son and great community supporter in Bob. EnhanceClifton Public Meeting It is our hope that many members of the Clifton Boulevard neighborhood will join us for a Public Meeting on Thursday, August 5th at Kirby Manor, 11500 Detroit Avenue at 6 PM to learn more about the public transit and streetscape enhancements planned for Clifton Blvd. If you cannot attend, go to www.EnhanceClifton.com for the latest. Cudell Improvement Wins Funding from Many Sources to Serve Neighborhood Constituents Recent funding awards from several sources will allow Cudell Improvement to continue its many programs that provide a myriad of meaningful services to neigbhorhood consitutuents. Recent awards include: Home Weatherization Assistance - $1, 482,061; Community Development (commercial and housing) - $75,000; Neighborhood Progress, Inc. (housing) - $20,000; Neighborhood Progress, Inc. (cooperative housing model) - $4,000. Dancin' in the Streets! There will be dancing in the streets on Clifton Blvd. on Saturday, August 21 from 8 PM - 1 AM. Tickets will be available beginning next weekend at Twist Social Club, 11633 Clifton Blvd. All proceeds benefit the Aids Taskforce. Tickets are $10.00 in advance, $15.00 at the gate. Rock on! |
