Call For Artists - 23rd Annual Clifton Arts & Musicfest

On June 19, 2010, the 23rd Annual Clifton Arts & Musicfest will unfold on wonderful, walkable Clifton Blvd. in Cleveland.  Applications for the Juried Fine Arts Show are available now for downloading at www.cudell.com. Click on the Clifton Arts & Musicfest button to find the 2010 application.  About $2,000 in prize money is available for those entering the Stanley Mason Juried Art  Competition.  Additionally, up to two $750 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors or college level students pursuing degrees in the arts.  Student scholarship applications may be had by calling 216.228.4383.

Cudell Improvement, Inc. Annual Meeting 1/20/10

We have a seat saved for you at Cudell's 35th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, January 20th at Brennan's Party Center. A tasty buffet of sandwiches and side dishes along with desserts will fill you tummy while the Key Note Speaker, the Honorable Raymond L. Pianka, Judge, Cleveland Municipal Housing Court, shares some positive aspects of the foreclosure crisis.  Beautification and service awards will be presented along with special recognition for outstanding endeavors in the community.  We'll top off the evening with great door prizes and socializing.  The Census has provided small gifts for all as a reminder to complete the Census.  Remember to bring warm gloves, hats, mittens, scarves and tees for the students at Marion C. Seltzer School.  The kids are always very grateful.  Thanks to NCB/PNC for their sponsorship to make the evening possible.  See y'all there at 6:45 PM.

WECO Fund Seminar for Small Businesses

Cudell Improvement, Inc. will once again host a WECO Fund seminar designed to foster and grow small businesses.  WECO will present this introductory session on loan packaging and other assistance available through WECO Fund at 9815 Lorain Avenue on Tuesday, Februay 23 from 6 PM - 7:30 PM.  There is no charge for the session and is open to the public.  Registration is recommended by calling WECO at 216.458.0250. 

New Bookstore on Detroit Avenue

In February, avid readers will have a local shop to buy new and used books.  Aletia Howard will be opening So Help Me! bookstore at 11102 Detroit Avenue near the Eastman Condominiums.   Look for opening news here soon. 

Busy Broad Owner Wins Coveted Award

Marta Glazen, owner of the Busy Broad at 10433 Clifton Blvd., is one of only 30 worldwide winners of a Hatty Award for 2009.  The awards are presented by Hat Life, a headwear organization that has been around for about 140 years.  Among Glazen's accomplishments that earned her a Hatty were her first place finish in the Saratoga Hat Contest at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and her being the only American finalist in the Queens Hat competition at Royal Ascot in England.  To inquire about custom hats, boutique items and specialty tea parties, call Marta at 216.961.9004.

JPMorgan Chase Opens Cleveland Office for Mortgage Modifications

JPMorgan Chase is opening a Cleveland office to meet with pople who need to modify their mortgage agreements with the bank.  The office is located in the M.K. Ferguson Building at Tower City Center.  It will deal with mortgages serviced by Chase, Washington Mutual and EMC Mortgage Corp.  Although walk-ins can be accommodated, appointments are preferred.  Borrowers who are late or delinquent on mortgages from those entities can make appointments by calling 216.802.4128.    The Center is open from 10 AM - 7 PM Monday through Thursday, 9 AM - 6 PM Friday and 9 AM - 1 PM Saturday.  If you use the service, please call Cudell's Housing Director, Jan Kappenhagen, to relate your service experience at the  JPMorgan Chase Cleveland office.  Jan can be reached at 216.281.2646.

New Martial Arts Classes at Cudell Recreation Center

CAPOERIA (pronounced cah-po-AIR-uh) is a kids' after school recreation program being held at Cudell Recreation Center that combines elements of self-defense, dance, gymnastics, music and foreign language in one incredible class!  It's a great way to get moving that helps kids develop coordination, flexibility, strength, self-confidence, creativity and more.  The class meets Tuesdays and Thursday from 6 - 7 pm.  The program is free and open to boys and girls of all ages.  The kids should wear comfortable clothing (white or light colored) that is free of logos, if possible.
